Lettuce harvesting has been a boon recently in Hai'an, Jiangsu province, significantly boosting the income of local farmers.

"This batch of early spring lettuce was sown at the start of October last year and transplanted by the end of the month, allowing it to hit the market two months ahead of the usual lettuce season," said Tang Wenlan, a villager from Guangming village in Hainan.

"A greenhouse covering about 1 mu (about 0.07 hectare) can produce over 10,000 jin (500 kilograms) of lettuce. As the Spring Festival draws near, the demand for lettuce soars, making it possible to sell it for 11,000 yuan ($1,500.33) per mu without any issue," added Tang.

In Guangming village, vegetables are the local industry's cornerstone, winning consumers' favor with their superior varieties, early market entry, and high quality.

The practice of intercropping vegetables like lettuce, luffa, potatoes, coriander, and garlic has significantly propelled the local economy and substantially increased the villagers' income.
