Kids learn traditional Chinese craft at community event

To celebrate the New Year, Xinghai Community in Nantong Economic and Technological Development Zone hosted a creative calendar-making activity on Jan 1, featuring the traditional Chinese craft of rubbings.

"Rubbing is one of China's ancient handicrafts, dating back over 1,000 years. It holds unique practical and collectible value," explained a community volunteer during the event. Before starting, the children were introduced to this traditional art form's history and cultural significance. The volunteer also provided a step-by-step demonstration of how to create the rubbings, along with an overview of the materials used.

Under the supervision of staff members, the children engaged in a hands-on activity to create their unique calendars using the rubbing technique.

Looking ahead, Xinghai Community plans to organize more activities like this to inspire children to explore traditional Chinese culture and appreciate its rich heritage.
