Amid the background of consumption becoming a larger portion of the national economy, the big tour group model is finding it is harder to please picky tourists who would be more willing to pay for a private and in-depth travel experience rather than a quick glimpse of crowded attraction sites.
Finding inner peace away from the city lights has become a luxury for urban beings and Ordos can still fill the void with its wild grasslands that remain separate from the fast pace of modernization.
Immersed in its highly Buddhist history, the Zhungeer Temple area in Ordos features ancient temples, Inner Mongolian folk culture and agricultural tourism, as well as plenty of wilderness. The area provides an escape for those who want to find shelter in the Zen surroundings. With Manshi Group investing a total of 1 billion yuan ($149 million), the tourist area now covers 14.88 square kilometers.
