The foreigners’ rights and interests when shopping in China

Foreigners living in China enjoy the status as consumers when purchasing and using goods or receiving services for personal needs, thus being entitled to the protection of the Consumer Protection Law as well as other relevant laws and regulations. If their legitimate rights are infringed upon in consumption, they can safeguard their legitimate rights and interests in accordance with the relevant provisions of this very act.

According to the Consumer Protection Law and other relevant laws and regulations, foreigners in consumption in China are entitled to the following rights:

(1) the right to the safety of person and the intactness of property in purchasing or using a commodity, or receiving a service;

(2) the right to knowledge of the true facts concerning commodities purchased and used or services received;

(3) the right to free choice of goods or services;

(4) the right to a fair transaction;

(5) the right to receive compensation in accordance with the law for personal and property damages incurred as a result of the purchase and use of commodities or receipt of service;

(6) the right to form mass organizations in accordance with law to protect their own legitimate rights and interests;

(7) the right to obtain information relating to consumption and the protection of the rights and interests of consumers;

(8) the right to have their personality and ethnic customs and habits respected when purchasing and using goods and receiving services;

(9) the right to exercise supervision over commodities, services as well as the work of protection of consumer rights and interests.
