The city of Ordos in Inner Mongolia autonomous region was honored with a new title at the 2018 China Ordos Forum on Silk Road Tourism Development, which was held in Dongsheng district, Ordos, on Dec 14. 

Lu Changjun, president of the United Nations World Silk Road Forum; Wang Ruipu, president of the China Development Forum; Zhu Liping, inspector of the Inner Mongolia Department of Culture and Tourism, and Siqinbilige, acting mayor of Ordos, all delivered speeches at the opening ceremony, which was chaired by Liu Jianxun, vice-mayor of Ordos. 

During Lu’s speech, he said that Ordos, located at the core of the Eurasia Land Bridge, served as a bridge linking Russia, Mongolia and Kazakhstan.

In recent years, Ordos has been transitioning from a city of energy to a city of tourism, he said. 

Siqinbilige stressed the role of Ordos’ growing economy and improved infrastructure in promoting the city’s tourism industry. 

He said that Ordos would make continuous efforts to improve its infrastructure and services with the aim of building Ordos into a tourism city featuring prairie culture. 

Following their speeches, the United Nations World Silk Road Forum granted the honor “tourism city of prairie Silk Road” to the city. 

The event was attended by more than 200 representatives from the academic community, government departments and media organizations, with the forum lasting two days. 

During that time, the opening ceremony of the eighth Ordos Ice and Snow Tourism Festival and a parallel forum on the integration of culture and tourism were held.
