Passengers can use e-tickets at three train stations from Dec 18 in the city of Ordos in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, according to rail officials.

From that date passengers who want G or D bullet trains tickets do not need to buy paper tickets in advance at Juungar station, Dongsheng Dong station and Ordos station in Ordos.

Rail officials said they can instead go to the station and have their ID card or mobile phone QR code scanned by machines.

According to Hohhot Rail, in addition to the three Ordos stations, from Dec 18 some 14 railway stations in Inner Mongolia autonomous region will implement e-ticket business for G or D bullet train passengers.

G or D bullet train passengers at these stations can enter the station with their ID cards. Users of 12306 -- China's official railway ticket-booking mobile app -- who have completed face and identity verification can also enter the station with the dynamic QR code generated automatically by 12306 mobile app.

Rail officials said the check-in time of passengers will only takes 3-5 seconds, further improving the travel experience of passengers.

For those who need hard copies of their tickets for reimbursement, printed tickets could be requested at designated counters at participating railway stations.

According to officials, China has been progressively introducing railway e-tickets nationwide in recent years for the convenience of passengers.

They said China's high-speed railway network will continue to be the longest in the world with an estimated length of 35,000 km by the end of this year.
