An opening ceremony for a winter camp for 128 young people of Chinese descent from Indonesia and Botswana was held at Dongsheng district in Ordos, a city in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on Dec 18.

Sponsored by All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, organizers said the 10-day event aims to further deepen the understanding of overseas youth of Chinese descent about their ancestral country.

It also aims to stimulate their interest and enthusiasm in learning Chinese, as well as to offer opportunities for them to experience the charms of China through a unique in-depth experience of Mongolian culture and Ordos customs.

At the ceremony, Ding Ling, vice-minister of the united front work department of the Ordos municipal Party committee, extended a warm welcome to the visitors.

Hu Riga, the president of Ordos Returned Overseas Chinese Federation, briefly talked about the general situation in Inner Mongolia autonomous region and Ordos.

He expressed his hope that the visitors would be enchanted with their experience of Ordos and the beauty of Ordos' Mongolian folk culture in the 10-day cultural experience activities.

"I hope that these youths can bring back what they see, what they gain and what they feel in China to Indonesia and Botswana -- and become promoters of the excellent culture of the Chinese nation and cultural exchanges with other countries in the world", he added.
