A distributed wind power project of Otog Front Banner in Ordos, a major city in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, got the green light from the Ordos energy administration on Dec 31, 2019, according to local media reports.

The power plant, funded by Ordos Jiayuan New Energy Co Ltd, will cost 100 million yuan ($14.34 million) and its installed capacity will be 15 megawatts, according to local officials.

It is the first wind power project approved in Otog Front Banner. Officials said that pre-preparations for the project are currently going ahead in an orderly manner.

The wind farm, which is expected to be connected to the grid by the end of 2020, will have an annual power generation of 30.45 million kWh.

Officials said this would save the usage of an estimated 9,900 tons of coal per year and 94,400 tons of water annually, as well as providing more growth for the banner's economy.
