A new 6.47 billion yuan ($929.1 million) power plant located in Shanghaimiao town in Otog Front Banner in Ordos -- a city in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region -- got approval from the region's energy administration on Dec 30, 2019, according to local media reports.

The Shanghaimiao power plant -- which is being funded by Guodian Inner Mongolia Power Co Ltd, Shenhua Guoneng Group Co Ltd and GD Power Development Co Ltd – will involve the construction of two 1-kilowatt supercritical coal-fired air-cooled generating units, as well as equipment for desulfurization, denitrification and dust removal.

According to local media reports, after the completion of the project, it will be connected to the ultra-high-voltage direct current power line that runs from Shanghaimiao to East China's Shandong province.

Officials said it will play a leading role in the integration of coal and electricity and the construction of a modern industrial system in Otog Front Banner.

They said it will also have important strategic significance and a long-term impact on promoting the energy revolution and realizing green development in the whole city and even the whole autonomous region.
