Passenger trains are scheduled to operate on the Dongsheng-Wuhai Railway in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region by the end of this year, according to a symposium on the railway’s passenger service held on Aug 6.
The railway, connecting Dongsheng district in Ordos city to Wuhai city in the autonomous region, first went into use in 2008, but no passenger services were offered.
The new passenger service will be jointly operated by China Railway Hohhot Bureau and Dongwu Railway Co.
Officials said the design speed of the Dongsheng-Wuhai Railway is 120 kilometer per hour and the running time from Ordos to Wuhai is about 3.5 hours.
The trains will stop at Ordos station, Haolebaoji station, Otog station, Qipanjing station and Wuhai station.
Officials said that the opening of the passenger services on the rail line will allow farmers and herdsmen to complete a round trip between the two cities in a single day.
They also said that the service is an important measure to promote the flow of people, logistics and information in the central and western regions of Ordos city.
Officials added that it was also of great significance to the social and economic development of areas along the rail line.
