New energy power-generation facility announced for Ordos

Updated: 2020-12-23 Print

A new energy power generation project driven by wind and solar energy is to be constructed in Dongsheng district in Ordos city in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

The project will combine 1,000-megawatt wind energy installed capacity and 5,000 MW solar energy installed capacity. It will also receive a total investment of 23.8 billion yuan ($3.57billion).

It was recently announced at a signing ceremony between Dongsheng district’s government and China Energy Engineering Group Co (China Energy), a leading and internationally advanced energy engineering conglomerate and a well-known brand in the power industry.

It is the second combined energy power generation project of China Energy, following a project integrating wind, solar, water and coal signed at this year’s China-ASEAN Expo, which will be built in Chongzuo city in South China’s Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

Dongsheng district is located in the eastern area of central Ordos city. It is one of the Hohhot-Baotou-Ordos economic triangles of the Inner Mongolia autonomous region and an important node city of the Hohhot-Baotou-Ordos-Yulin urban agglomeration.

In response to the requirements of the National Energy Administration's "Guiding Opinions on the Development of Power Generation Projects Integrating Wind, Water and Coal," China Energy has built eight 1,000 MW coal-fired power plants in Dongsheng district.

When the newly-signed new energy power project goes into full operation, Dongsheng district will produce about 33 billion kilowatts of electricity each year, of which new energy power generation will account for more than 41 percent.
