The industrial structure of Ordos city is changing significantly, with the city moving away from solely focusing on its coal industry to innovatively developing its emerging industries.
Since the beginning of this year, 118 projects with a total investment amount of 81.7 billion yuan ($12.26 billion) started or resumed construction. Among these projects are those in the fields of modern energy equipment manufacturing, new energy and materials, and clean coal.
A new energy demonstration project invested by Envision Group in the Jiangsu Industrial Park in Ordos' Ejin Horoo Banner is a project highlight.
The project has received a total investment of 6.18 billion yuan to construct a 20GW energy storage and power battery facilities.
The project's first phase is scheduled to officially go into production on April 30, and it is expected to generate annual production revenue of 6 billion yuan and provide job opportunities for 1,500 people.
"In the future, industry chains involving mining machinery, chemical machinery, integrated natural gas applications, power equipment, solar photovoltaics and new energy vehicles will be formed here,” said He Hongzhi, director of the economic development bureau of the Jiangsu Industrial Park.
Additionally, since 2021, more than 130 technologies and measures have been applied to production lines to reduce costs and increase efficiency in the comprehensive utilization of the modern coal chemical industry and downstream waste.
Technological innovation not only guarantees the supply of coal, but also facilitates the transformation and upgrading of the coal industry. Ordos has built 149 green mines, accounting for 32 percent of the constructed green mines in Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
