Ordos economic, social development robust in 2021

The main economic indicators for Ordos city – located in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region – last year stood at the forefront of the entire region and the city's economic and social development goals were reportedly achieved as scheduled.

In 2021, the GDP of Ordos reached 471.57 billion yuan ($70.75 billion), a year-on-year increase of 7.0 percent. 

The added value of the primary industry came in at 14.84 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.4 percent, while the added value of the secondary industry was 307.79 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.4 percent. The added value of the tertiary industry was 148.94 billion yuan, an increase of 8.0 percent on the previous year.

In terms of its different industries, the economic and social development of Ordos presented the following characteristics:

Agriculture

In 2021, the total output value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and the fishery sectors in Ordos was 25.21 billion yuan, an increase of 4.5 percent on the previous year. 

The annual grain output hit 2.01 billion kilograms, topping 2 billion kg for the first time.

Industry

Last year the added value of industries above a designated size in the city increased by 5.8 percent year-on-year.

Of these, the energy sector grew 6.1 percent year-on-year, accounting for 85 percent of the industrial added value above a designated size and driving Ordos’ industrial added value to increase by 4.9 percentage points.

Service industry

Last year, the added value of the service industry in Ordos increased by 8 percent year-on-year and its contribution to economic growth came in at 44.9 percent.

From January to November 2021, the city's service industry enterprises above a designated size achieved operating income of 34.65 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.8 percent. Among the 24 major industry categories, 19 industries achieved operating income growth, while 15 industries maintained double-digit growth in operating income.

Investment

In 2021, the city's fixed asset investment increased by 20.8 percent year-on-year, ranking Ordos second in Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

Meanwhile, annual industrial investment increased by 21.8 percent, accounting for 62.3 percent of the fixed asset investment and an increase of 0.5 percentage points over the previous year.

Residents' incomes 

Last year, the per capita disposable income of all residents in Ordos city reached 45,638 yuan, a year-on-year increase of 7.7 percent.

The per capita disposable income of urban permanent residents was 53,676 yuan, while that for rural and pastoral residents was 23,583 yuan.

Employment

In 2021, 20,154 people found jobs in the urban areas of Ordos city and the registered urban unemployment rate was controlled at 3.11 percent.
