Ordos economic, social development transforms

The First Session of the Fifth Ordos People's Congress was held on Feb 11 in the Kangbashi district of the city, which is located in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
A work report summarizing Ordos' economic and social development achievements since the First Session of the Fourth Ordos People's Congress, held in January 2018, was delivered at the conference.
Comprehensive strengthens increase
The GDP of Ordos increased from 315.02 billion yuan ($47.26 billion) in 2017 to 471.57 billion yuan in 2021, an increase of 13.3 percent. The city's per capita GDP exceeded 200,000 yuan last year.
Meanwhile, the general public budget revenue of Ordos increased from 35.68 billion yuan in 2017 to 55.2 billion yuan in 2021, with an average annual growth rate of 11.5 percent.
Industrial structure is adjusted
In 2021, the installed capacity of coal-fired power stations in Ordos was 25.31 million kilowatts, while the city's installed capacity of new energy topped 4 million kilowatts and its modern coal chemicals production capacity came in at nearly 20 million metric tons.
The city has been identified as a national modern coal chemicals industry demonstration zone. It is also one of the first batch of national industrial transformation and upgrading demonstration zones and is one of the first batch of national culture and tourism consumption demonstration cities.
Opening-up of economy advances
Reforms of key areas of Ordos are said to have achieved substantial results, while its business environment now ranks among the top ones in Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
In 2021, the number of business entities in Ordos – ranging from sole traders to big companies – reached 265,000 and the added value of the private economy accounted for more than 60 percent of the city's GDP.
Also last year, the accumulated capital in place for attracting investment was 123.9 billion yuan and the actual utilization of foreign capital hit $4.78 billion.
Environment continues to improve
Ordos has implemented large-scale land greening and has completed phased goals and tasks for ensuring a blue sky, clear water and pristine land.
The forest coverage rate in the city reached 27.3 percent last year, its vegetation coverage was stable at over 70 percent and the air quality rated as "good" or "excellent" came in at around 90 percent.
Ordos was also granted the honorary title of "the most ecologically competitive city in China."
Appearance of Ordos urban, rural areas progresses
Ordos continued to promote its rural revitalization strategy, helping its urbanization rate to increase to 77.5 percent last year. A three-dimensional modern transportation network has been fully formed in the city.
People's livelihoods, well-being better
The task of poverty alleviation in Ordos city is said to have been completed to a high standard and the problem of absolute poverty has now been resolved.
Last year, Ordos took the lead in realizing full coverage of national health counties and towns in Inner Mongolia. It's been awarded the honorary title of "national excellent city for comprehensive management of social security" for two consecutive years.
