The city of Ordos in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region is upgrading its industrial economy by exploring a new path of high-quality development that prioritizes environmental protection and sustainable growth.

The Ordos Carbon-Zero Industrial Park in the city's Ejin Horoo Banner is a key pilot project for such measures.

Relying on the abundance of nearby wind and solar resources, the industrial park is striving for new energy power indicators and planning to allocate a high proportion of energy storage, exploring the establishment of the park's microgrid and green electricity sales system and gradually realizing the park's green electricity supply.

Some resident projects of the industrial park, such as Meijin Guohong's 1.5 GW hydrogen fuel cell stack production project and SAIC Hongyan and Yuechi's vehicle manufacturing transitional production lines, are currently offline, and the LONGi Green Energy PV industry chain project has recently started construction.

Additionally, Ordos has established the Peking University-Ordos Carbon Neutrality Joint Laboratory and Tsinghua University-New Energy Industry Innovation Center, and jointly established the Ordos New Power System Laboratory and the Ordos New Energy Vehicle Testing Center with North China Electric Power University and the China Automotive Engineering Research Institute.

Moreover, the city has cooperated with nine academician teams to carry out theoretical research, achieve key technology breakthroughs and carry out mature technology pilot tests.

Elsewhere, the research institute will continue to focus on subject technological research and development, and carry out extensive and in-depth research to help Ordos develop into a development model and innovative "low carbon, zero carbon, and decarbonization" demonstration base for resource cities in central and western China, according to Wang Binghao, chairman of the Ordos Carbon Neutrality Research Institute.
