The city of Ordos in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region officially launched a cross-border e-commerce online shopping bonded import business on June 29.

That day, the first batch of imported daily necessities was successfully sold from the Ordos Comprehensive Bonded Zone.

It was also the first cross-border e-commerce online shopping bonded business since Ordos was approved by the State Council as a cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zone.

Online shopping bonded importing is a special type of cross-border e-commerce importing for domestic individuals or e-commerce enterprises to achieve cross-border transactions on e-commerce platforms recognized by customs through designated comprehensive bonded and other areas.

Under this model, e-commerce enterprises can purchase goods centrally from overseas according to consumer needs, stock up on goods in the comprehensive bonded area in advance, and sell them online through an e-commerce platform.

The model boasts fast order response, short transportation time and low comprehensive shipping costs, effectively reducing commodity prices and improving the shopping experience.

Consumers living in the Inner Mongolian cities of Ordos, Baotou and Hohhot, as well as those in Yulin city in Northwest China’s Shaanxi province, can receive their imported goods in one to two days, according to Yan Jie, the person in charge of Ordos Priest Cross-border Trading Co.

To facilitate the business, Ordos customs has coordinated and carried out full-process testing of software and hardware construction, system joint debugging, and operation links involved in cross-border e-commerce.

It has also helped optimize business processes and simplify application content.
