Ordos achieves rapid economic development in 10 years

The economy of Ordos in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region has achieved rapid development from 2012 to 2021.

The total economy has steadily increased.

Over a 10-year period, Ordos' GDP increased from 230.58 billion yuan ($34.60 billion) in 2012 to 471.57 billion yuan in 2021, with an average annual growth rate of 5.5 percent.

The per capita GDP of Ordos jumped from 115,000 yuan in 2012 to 218,000 yuan in 2021.

Also, the city's general public budget revenue increased from 37.55 billion yuan in 2012 to 55.20 billion yuan in 2021, with an average annual growth rate of 4.4 percent.

Moreover, the average annual growth rate of the city's industrial added value above designated size reached 6.4 percent.

The quality and efficiency of the agricultural and animal husbandry industries have been improved.

From 2012 to 2021, Ordos promoted modern agricultural and animal husbandry production methods such as protected agriculture and agricultural mechanization, and a modern agricultural and animal husbandry industry system had been established.

In 2021, the total output value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery in Ordos came in at 25.21 billion yuan, 1.7 times that of 2012, with an average annual growth of 3.2 percent.

The city's total sown area of crops reached 456,700 hectares in 2021, an increase of 14.0 percent compared with 2012; its grain output was 2.01 million tons in 2021, an increase of 43.3 percent over 2012; and its vegetable output hit 429,000 tons in 2021, an increase of 24.7 percent over 2012.

Industrial economy develops strongly.

As an important energy base in the country, Ordos is accelerating the construction of a pioneer area with a new path of high-quality development with environmental priorities.

In 2021, Ordos' industrial added value reached 283.96 billion yuan, accounting for 60.2 percent of the city's GDP and seeing an average annual growth rate of 5.7 percent since 2012.

In the same period, the city's output of industrial raw coal above designated size hit 673 million tons, an increase of more than 30 million tons compared with that in 2012. Ordos' coal output that year accounted for 64.8 percent of Inner Mongolia and one sixth of the country's total.

The city's output of new products such as coal-to-liquids, polyethylene, polypropylene, alumina, automobiles, and liquid crystal displays has achieved substantial growth. They reached 3.39 million tons, 1.29 million tons, 1.36 million tons, 436,000 tons, 54,488 vehicles and 91.15 million pieces, respectively.

Service industry improves significantly.

In 2021, the service industry in Ordos achieved an added value of 148.94 billion yuan, with an average annual growth of 5.9 percent. The same year, the city's total retail sales of consumer goods reached 60.83 billion yuan, 1.6 times that of 2012, with an average annual growth of 6.0 percent in 10 years.

Over a 10-year period, transportation in Ordos has become more developed and convenient. In 2021, the city's highway mileage, railway mileage, and civil aviation operating routes reached 24,884 kilometers, 2,660 km and 51, respectively, 1.4 times, 2.1 times, and 1.3 times that of 2012.

In 2021, 17.50 million visits were made to Ordos, generating a total tourism revenue of 33.03 billion yuan.
