Ordos welcomes people from all walks of life to invest and start businesses in the city, said Du Huiliang, a deputy to the first session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) and mayor of Ordos, when interviewed by china.com.cn in the capital of Beijing during the two sessions.

The city of Ordos is located in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

Ordos is endowed with unique resources, with coal and natural gas reserves accounting for one sixth and one third of the country's total, respectively.

In 2022, Ordos met the coal demand of 25 provinces, regions and municipalities across the country, and delivered nearly 20 billion cubic meters of natural gas to more than 40 cities.

Ordos has ranked first in the business environment assessment among the cities and leagues in Inner Mongolia for three consecutive years, and was selected as a hot investment city in China in 2022.

Ordos' total GDP reached 561.3 billion yuan ($80.76 billion) in 2022, ranking first in Inner Mongolia and 45th among prefecture-level cities nationwide.

Du said that the city's GDP is expected to grow by about 6.5 percent in 2023 and should exceed 600 billion yuan this year. By 2025, the city's GDP is expected to exceed 800 billion yuan.

Ordos will continue to advance investment promotion, promote consumption upgrading and expansion, strengthen industrial development, stimulate market vitality, and balance regional development.

Additionally, as an important energy base of the country, Ordos will make efforts in three areas to promote the diversification, low-carbon and high-end development of the energy economy:

Firstly, Ordos will continue to increase its overall energy supply. By 2025, it will build an energy pillar industry with an annual production output of 1 billion metric tons of coal and 100 million kilowatts of power installed capacity.

Secondly, it will further develop the modern coal chemical industry and new materials industries, and build a world-class coal chemical industry.

Thirdly, it will accelerate the pace of new energy development, accelerate the construction of a new energy system, and build a world-class new energy industry integrating energy production, equipment manufacturing, and demonstration applications.
