Thriving transportation powerhouse boosts Ordos' livelihoods

In 2023, the city of Ordos began construction on a comprehensive modern transportation system, which is set to optimize and improve the layout of its integrated transport routes.
By the end of November 2023, seven ongoing projects, including the Baotou-Yinchuan High-speed Railway, resumed construction; while six new projects, such as the Changcheng Power Plant Coal Transportation Line, commenced construction. These new projects have a total investment of 2.78 billion yuan ($380.82 million).
Meanwhile, Ordos coordinated with railway passenger transport departments to increase the number of stops for domestic passenger trains. The city has also optimized its schedules.
Currently, 19.5 pairs of scheduled passenger trains pass through Ordos, connecting to 55 cities across the country.
From January to November 2023, the railway in Ordos achieved a passenger throughput of 2.44 million, a remarkable 205.4 percent increase compared to the previous year.
The volume of goods transported reached 429 million metric tons in 2023, showing a slight growth of 0.2 percent. Last year, the city's railway network also expanded by 31.6 kilometers, reaching a total of 2,731.6 km.
In terms of civil aviation, from January to November 2023, Ordos Ejin Horoo International Airport operated 78 routes in total, serving 66 cities. It facilitated 25,603 flights, accommodating 2.33 million passengers, indicating a substantial 243.7 percent increase compared to the previous year.
Also, the general aviation airports in the city's Uxin Banner and Otog Banner were put into use last year, resulting in the forming of a generation aviation network in the city.
