Previously known as Ih Ju League - literally translated to 'big temple' in Mongolian language - the league was renamed Ordos and declared a prefecture-level city with the State Council's approval on Feb 26, 2001.
It governs Kangbashi district, Dongsheng district, Dalad Banner, Juungar Banner, Ejin Horoo Banner, Uxin Banner, Hanggin Banner, Otog Banner, Otog Front Banner. The whole city is home to 51 townships, within which there are 735 villages.
There are also 26 sub district offices and 258 communities.
The China's Top 100 Counties List in 2023 was recently unveiled, featuring the Juungar Banner, Ejin Horoo Banner, and Uxin Banner from Ordos city.
Juungar Banner and Ejin Horoo Banner have consistently secured positions on the list in previous years.
In 2023, Juungar Banner recorded a GDP of 140.03 billion yuan with a growth rate of 9.7 percent, ranking 29th in the top 100 counties in terms of GDP.
Ejin Horoo Banner achieved a GDP of 122.09 billion yuan with a growth rate of 3.5 percent, placing 41st on the GDP list.
