Core equipment for coal-to-oil achieves localization in Ordos

A new domestically-developed high-pressure coal slurry feed pump has been installed in Ordos city, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region. After a successful initial operation, the pump is now entering a long-term performance assessment.

This marks the "localized era" for domestic five-plunger coal slurry feed pumps for direct coal liquefaction, promising reduced construction investment and production costs for coal-to-oil conversion.

The equipment was jointly developed by CHN Energy Ordos Coal-to-Oil Company and other domestic equipment manufacturers.

Niu Gang, deputy manager of the Mechanical Power Department at CHN Energy, explained, "The high-pressure coal slurry feed pump is a core component of the direct coal liquefaction unit, responsible for pressurizing the coal slurry that is then delivered upstream to a coal liquefaction reactor.”

This prototype pump has passed the technical achievement appraisal of the China Machinery Industry Federation, and the National Energy Administration included it as part of the third batch of major technical equipment in the energy sector.

In recent years, CHN Energy has actively promoted technological innovation and the localization of key equipment, building on its extensive experience with high-pressure three-plunger coal slurry feed pumps.

"At present, the high-pressure coal slurry feed pump is undergoing a long-term performance assessment, with a maximum flow rate of 110 cubic meters per hour. This surpasses the maximum flow rate of the original imported high-pressure coal slurry feed pump," stated Niu.
