On the afternoon of March 6, the Inner Mongolia delegation to the 14th National People's Congress held a plenary meeting at their residence.

Du Huiliang, mayor of Ordos city, answered questions from Guangming Daily reporters and explained how Ordos is driving high-quality development and advancing the process of Chinese-style modernization.

Du said that as a typical energy and resource-based city, Ordos must ensure national energy security while also coordinating its industrial transition and development.

In 2023, Ordos achieved a GDP growth rate of 7 percent, the highest in nearly seven years, with a total GDP of 585 billion yuan ($80.14 billion), the 43rd highest among prefecture-level cities nationwide.

It also maintained the top position in per capita GDP nationwide.

To achieve these goals, Du outlined specific strategies, including expanding and strengthening traditional advantageous industries, promoting the comprehensive development of the new energy industrial chain, and leading industrial transformation through technological innovation.

In recent years, Ordos has fully implemented the requirements related to peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality, promoted the clean and efficient use of coal, accelerated the construction of the national modern coal chemical industry demonstration zone, and facilitated the transformation of the chemical industry towards high-end, diversified, and low-carbon development.

Simultaneously, Ordos is continuously elevating the overall influence, brand competitiveness, and international discourse power of its cashmere industry.

Elsewhere, Ordos is not only stabilizing traditional energy but also developing new energy. It is a key national land-based new energy base, and leads prefecture-level cities nationwide when it comes to the size of its approved new energy generation projects. By 2025, new energy installed capacity in Ordos is expected to exceed 50 million kilowatts, accounting for more than half of its total installed capacity.

Leveraging its advantages in green energy, Ordos has established the world's first zero-carbon zone, focusing on creating a benchmark for the construction of a new energy system.

Furthermore, the city has introduced 30 new technology policies and the second version of talent policies to support innovation, with a 55.7-percent increase in fiscal technology investment in 2023 compared to 2021.
