The second phase of the Ordos new energy project, a 1.2 million kW wind power initiative in the Kubuqi Desert, is making steady progress.
Three wind turbine foundations have been poured, nine turbines' foundations excavated, and 35 kilometers of access roads have been cleared.
This 3.08 billion yuan ($421.92 million) project covers approximately 4,216.4 mu (281.09 hectares) and involves installing 96 wind turbines with a total capacity of 600 MW. A new 220 kV booster station will channel the power to the Mengxi-Tianjin South transmission line.

Construction of the project began on June 19, 2024, as part of China's second batch of major wind and photovoltaic bases in deserts, Gobi deserts, and other arid regions.
Upon completion, the project is expected to generate 1.67 billion kWh annually, saving 526,200 metric tons of coal each year and reducing annual emissions of sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide, and other gases by over 4.56 million tons.
