New energy vehicles, lithium batteries, and solar batteries are known as China's "New Trio" in foreign trade and have become a new driving force for foreign trade growth in Ordos.
At the AESC warehouse in Ordos Comprehensive Bonded Zone, boxes of lithium-ion battery packs are being loaded for shipment to Vietnam. According to customs statistics, Ordos exported 1.77 billion yuan ($251.60 million) worth of "New Trio" products in the first half of the year, an 87.4 percent year-on-year increase. The exports accounted for 93.2 percent of Inner Mongolia's "New Trio" exports during the same period and 32.8 percent of the city's total foreign trade value for the first half of the year.
In recent years, Ordos has accelerated the development of its new energy industry cluster, promoting the formation of a complete industrial chain for wind, solar, hydrogen, storage, and vehicles.
This year, Ordos exported 2.54 billion yuan worth of machinery and electrical products, up 20.1 percent and accounting for 59.8 percent of the city's total exports. Among these, lithium battery exports reached 1.58 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 104.5 percent, while automobile exports amounted to 500 million yuan, up 87.6 percent, including 180 million yuan in electric passenger vehicles, an 8.4 percent increase.
