The China Geological Survey, under the Ministry of Natural Resources, recently announced the discovery of a super-large uranium deposit in the Jingchuan region of the Ordos Basin.

The discovery, made in collaboration with Changqing Oilfield Co of China National Petroleum Corporation, the China National Nuclear Corporation’s Geology Bureau, and provincial geological exploration units, is a significant breakthrough in uranium exploration.

This deposit marks the first global discovery of a super-large uranium reserve in an Aeolian sandstone distribution zone. It represents a major advancement in uranium exploration under China's new round of strategic initiatives to achieve breakthroughs in mineral exploration.

Experts revealed that China possesses vast areas of Aeolian sandstone. Beyond the approximately 200,000 square kilometers in the Ordos Basin, such geological formations are also widespread in oil and gas-bearing basins like the Tarim Basin, Junggar Basin, and Songliao Basin.

The discovery of the Jingchuan uranium deposit is expected to open new avenues for uranium exploration, significantly boost the country's uranium resource reserves, and enhance the security of its uranium supply.

This landmark finding underscores the potential of China’s geological resources and strengthens its strategic capabilities in energy security.
