Delegates of the Tenth Kubuqi International Desert Forum visited desert control demonstration sites in Ordos, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, exploring China's innovative approaches to ecological restoration.
At Kubuqi Desert's new energy base, guests observed large-scale photovoltaic projects that have both curbed desertification and boosted local livelihoods. With 12 million kilowatts of planned capacity, the base has already completed 2 million kW of solar projects, restoring 4,000 hectares of desertified land, creating over 10,000 jobs, and generating an annual output value exceeding 5 billion yuan (696.38 billion).
International experts praised the "Kubuqi model" for balancing ecological and economic benefits. "I saw remarkable technological applications here, which demonstrate China's significant achievements," said Gretchen Kalonji, special advisor at the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals. Amos Kabo-Bah, professor at the University of Energy and Natural Resources in Ghana, noted the model's potential to help Africa restore land and reduce poverty.
At the Dalad Banner's sand-control road project, delegates viewed measures such as sand barriers, drone seeding, and planting robots. Marcos Montoiro, external relations officer of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, commended the forum for "bringing together researchers and stakeholders from around the world to showcase progress and inspire those suffering from land degradation and drought to protect their land".
The Kubuqi model has become a shining example of how China's desertification control experience contributes to global ecological governance.
