Jining's travel market booms during Dragon Boat Festival

The travel market of Jining, East China's Shandong province saw a surging number of tourists, as well as diverse cultural and tourism products during the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday from June 12 to 14.

A total of 379,000 visits were made to the city's 24 major tourist attractions during the holiday, generating 24.75 million yuan ($3.85 million) in revenue. The three Confucian sites in Qufu, which are the Confucius Temple, the Confucius Cemetery, and the Confucius Family Mansion, received 42,000 visits and generated 1.49 million yuan in revenue, an increase of 74.5 percent and 245.7 percent respectively compared to last year.

A large number of cultural venues and tourist sites offered various activities to entertain visitors during the holiday. Jining Cultural Hall held several exhibitions displaying clay and wooden sculptures, calligraphy works, paintings, as well as photos.

At Nishan Sacred Land, tourists were able to try different DIY projects like making dragon boats, sachets, and zongzi, a traditional Chinese food that is widely consumed during the holiday. In Liangshan Mountain scenic area, more than 11,000 intangible cultural heritage items were on display, showcasing local culture and traditions.

The Jining government made great efforts before the holiday to stimulate consumer demand. The city's bureau of culture and tourism distributed 300,000 yuan worth of coupons for cultural and tourism products. Local attractions also offered discounts to soldiers, medical workers, seniors aged over 60, as well as students that attended this year's senior high school and college entrance exams.
