Ruan, a 23-year-old from South Africa, started working in Jining, Shandong province, in 2019. He is currently an English teacher at a local educational institution for children.

In Ruan's view, Jining is an ancient city with modern development. Compared to big cities, Jining has a slower pace of life, which is appealing to Ruan.

"There are many parks in Jining. There are many places you can go and many things to see," said Ruan.

Friendliness, open-mind and inclusiveness are qualities of Jining that have left the deepest impression on Ruan.

"I'm a homebody, but I have many friends in Jining. They have invited me for meals and movies, and also taught me Chinese," said Ruan.

The young man said he loves his current work because he is happy being with children. Talking about the future, he said he harbors a desire to open his own company in the city.

Jining in Foreigners' Eyes is a series of short clips focusing on expats living and working in Jining and sharing their experiences in the city. Watch this episode to learn more!
