Recently the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology jointly issued the first batch of national catalogs for the promotion of traditional craftsmanship.

A total of 383 traditional craft projects of 14 categories were selected, including textile dyeing and embroidery, dressmaking, weaving and plaiting, engraving and sculpting, furniture and architecture, metal processing, paper cutting, ceramic burning, Chinese study stationeries, lacquer decoration, printing and decoration, food production, Chinese medicine processing, and appliance production.

A total of 17 projects in Shandong were on the list, including Binzhou folk paper-cutting, the weaving of Lu brocade and Leizhou straw plaiting, the production of Zhoucun pancake, Dezhou pheasant chicken, Qishi soy sauce meat dressing, Er Xian Gao (semifluid extract of ginseng and antler glue) and donkey-hide gelatin, the making of Weifang kite, Lu school interior painting, Weifang silver inlaid enamel painting, Yangjiabu woodblock and the Gaomi ash-patting New Year picture, as well as the burning of colored glaze, Dezhou black pottery, Zibo ceramics and Linqing royal bricks.

The establishment of national catalogs for the promotion of traditional crafts is one of the major tasks proposed by the "Traditional Chinese Crafts Revitalization Plan". It aims to select and focus on supporting a group of traditional craft projects that have a heritage, a decent production scale and development prospects, and are conducive to employment promotion.

The plan seeks to propel the formation of scalable cases of experience that will drive the development and revitalization of traditional crafts across the country.

The first batch of traditional craftsmanship catalogs are based on the list of national intangible cultural heritage representative projects, focusing on a variety of large-scale projects with a large inheriting population that are suitable to exerting exemplary craftmanship roles and building national or local brands of traditional crafts.

It is also appropriately tilted to projects based in areas including old revolutionary bases, ethnic minority bases, the frontier, and poverty-stricken areas to accelerate local economic development and expand employment opportunities.
