Shanghai's foreign trade volume hits record high in Aug

In August, Shanghai's foreign trade volume hit a record high, with imports and exports reaching 414.97 billion yuan ($58.33 billion), a 15.8 percent increase year-on-year.

Shanghai's exports raked in 174.27 billion yuan, an increase of 26.2 percent, and imports brought in 240.7 billion yuan, an increase of 9.2 percent.

Automatic data processing equipment exports amounted to 23.51 billion yuan, an increase of 67.2 percent, increasing the city's total by 6.8 percentage points.

The city's electric passenger vehicle, lithium battery, and solar cell exports reached 12.83 billion yuan, 3.72 billion yuan, and 990 million yuan, respectively, increasing the city's total exports by 7 percentage points.

Shanghai's labor-intensive products exports amounted to 19.85 billion yuan, an increase of 8.5 percent year-on-year. Among them, the exports of clothing and textiles reached 8.09 billion yuan and 5.06 billion yuan, growing by 11.1 percent and 0.6 percent, respectively.

In August, Shanghai imported 15,000 cars worth 8.14 billion yuan, increasing 65.7 percent and 86.8 percent, respectively, and boosted the city's total imports by 1.7 percentage points.

Shanghai's gold imports reached 18.96 billion yuan, an increase of 43.7 percent year-on-year, driving the city's total imports up by 2.6 percentage points.
