Over the past 30 years, Zhangjiang Science City, a technology hub in Shanghai's Pudong New Area, has become a place for leading innovation in the city and China.

In 2022, the total output value of industrial enterprises above designated size in the area reached 370.2 billion yuan ($53.65 billion) and the fixed-asset investment totaled 44 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 3.3 percent. The area's paid-in foreign capital achieved $2.6 billion, a year-on-year increase of 12 percent. 

Wu Jun, deputy director of the Zhangjiang administration bureau at the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, said Zhangjiang Science City will launch 10 major measures that include an innovative ecosystem, industrial policy and quality of urban life and talent services, as well as continue to create a unique business environment for sci-tech innovation.

Zhangjiang Science City plans to strengthen the "industry-university-research" cooperation system that is centered on enterprises, leading enterprises and corporate venture capital funds to set up innovative platforms in the area and open up key scientific and technological infrastructure to entities in China and abroad.

The science city also intends to reform policies and optimize services and supervision, expand the scope of policy coverage to 220 square kilometers to benefit more innovative enterprises and talents.

Accelerating the construction of the rail transit system and launch 1 million square meters of commercial complexes within the year, is also a major priority for the science city, and a number of public service facilities in such sectors as medical care, education, culture and sports are expected start construction to improve the quality of urban life.

The science city is optimizing services to attract more professionals and construct talent communities.
