Shanghai Waigaoqiao FTZ sets new record in imports and exports
Shanghai Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone, within the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, has once again achieved remarkable results, topping the national comprehensive bonded zone performance rankings for four consecutive years.
According to customs statistics, in 2024, the zone's total import and export value reached 1.04 trillion yuan ($143.57 billion), up 4.6 percent year-on-year, accounting for 24.5 percent of Shanghai's total.
In July 2024, a public service platform for the import and export of biomedicine was launched in the zone, facilitating efficient customs clearance and ensuring uninterrupted supply chains. This platform has significantly reduced the warehousing costs and risks for cold chain products, enhancing their competitiveness.
The zone also excels in the cultural arts sector, with a platform for international artworks providing comprehensive services. In 2024, the value of imported and exported cultural artworks in the zone amounted to 7.28 billion yuan, accounting for 73.2 percent of Shanghai's total.
Furthermore, the zone has intensified efforts to cultivate authorized economic operator (AEO) enterprises, with 126 such enterprises now present, accounting for 22.58 percent of Shanghai Customs District's total. These enterprises benefit from various facilitation measures, such as priority processing and reduced supervision frequencies.
