Pudong New Area, a key district of Shanghai, has once again demonstrated its strong appeal to multinational corporations, welcoming 13 new regional headquarters and four foreign research and development centers. During a recent certification ceremony for MNCs' regional headquarters and foreign-invested R&D centers in Shanghai, Pudong accounted for a significant portion of the 30 headquarters and 10 R&D centers awarded.

These new arrivals are concentrated in key industrial sectors, with more than half coming from fields that Shanghai prioritizes for development, such as electronic information, biopharmaceuticals, high-end equipment, fashion consumption, and new energy. Notably, six of the 17 enterprises that received certificates in Pudong are in the biopharmaceutical industry, a leading sector in Shanghai.

Pudong's appeal extends across various industries. For instance, Labcorp, a leading provider of diagnostic services and biopharmaceutical lab services, has its China headquarters in the district, supporting clinical trials for numerous multinational pharmaceutical companies in China. Similarly, Stryker and Cordis, both pioneers in medical devices, have established their China headquarters in Pudong, bringing innovative products and solutions to Chinese doctors and patients.

In addition, Pudong has attracted a number of high-level headquarters. Companies like Gentherm, a leader in automotive thermal management technology, and GOAT, the world's largest rare sneaker trading platform, have chosen the district as the location for their Asian headquarters. Meanwhile, global giants like Costco, Veolia, Tesla, and GE Energy have also set up their China headquarters there.

Shanghai's GDP has surpassed 5 trillion yuan ($688.44 billion), positioning it among the world's top cities and enhancing its attractiveness to foreign enterprises. As an important window for China's high-level opening-up, Pudong remains a highly attractive destination for foreign investment and a preferred location for MNCs looking to establish their regional headquarters, supply chains, and innovation chains.

To date, Pudong has hosted 484 recognized multinational corporate headquarters and 283 foreign R&D centers, accounting for 47.1 percent and 47.4 percent of Shanghai's total, respectively.
