The Culture and Tourism Department of Shanxi Province recently released the "2024 Shanxi Tourism Big Data Report", highlighting a thriving tourism market across North China's Shanxi province, with major tourist hubs Taiyuan, Datong, and Yuncheng increasing in popularity.

In 2024, Taiyuan received the highest proportion of tourists in the province, at 19.55 percent of the total, while Taiyuan, Datong, and Yuncheng frequently appeared on lists of popular destinations during holiday periods.

The report indicates that 70 percent of tourists in Shanxi were from within the province, while 30 percent were from outside. The top ten sources of external visitors included Henan, Hebei, Shaanxi, Beijing, Shandong, Jiangsu, Hubei, and Anhui, indicating stable inflow from neighboring regions.

Data reveals a shift in tourist spending patterns in 2024. While the share of long-distance travel expenses slightly decreased compared to the previous year, spending on shopping and dining increased, reflecting an optimized consumption structure. Notably, shopping expenditures rose from 10.99 percent in 2022 to 16.60 percent.

Last year, the quality of cultural and tourism offerings in Shanxi continued to improve. By the end of 2024, Shanxi boasted 451 A-level scenic spots, an increase of 61 from the previous year, along with 64 provincial-level resorts and one national-level tourist resort. Additionally, the province introduced a series of unique cultural and creative products.

Shanxi also promoted initiatives to enhance tourism quality, including the "Tourism Experience Officer" program, tourism service quality evaluations, and visitor satisfaction surveys. Scenic spots at the 4A-level and above saw significant increases in keywords like "professional", "enthusiastic", and "attentive" in visitor reviews. These efforts have amplified the recognition of the "Satisfactory Tourism in Shanxi" brand.
