Pudong New Area recently took positive actions to prevent imported COVID-19 cases, a move in accordance with recent measures released by the municipal government to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus from overseas.

The new measures require that all travelers from countries severely affected by the virus arriving at the city's airports, including Pudong International Airport, be subject to epidemiological investigation and 14 days of quarantine.

They will then be escorted home or to quarantine hotels by chartered buses to minimize their contact with others, the Shanghai government said.

Pudong has called up more than 160 cadres, 50 police officers and 55 bus drivers to the airport to pick up said passengers, who have to fill in a registration form upon arrival.

For those who need home quarantine, if they have someone else to pick them up, the officials will escort them to the specific car and inform the authorities of the destination. Otherwise, they will be taken to their destinations by chartered buses.

Community workers, policemen and doctors will wait for them at their communities half an hour before their arrival for registration, temperature measurement and other procedures.

Once they arrive home, community workers will immediately disinfect the staircases and elevators. If they arrive late at night, disinfection will be carried out the next day to avoid disturbing other residents.

During the quarantine period, the neighborhood committee will arrange for personnel to send life supplies to their door and pick up their garbage. Some communities will also have workers who can speak English to provide services to expats.
