Jinqiao 5G Industrial Park, the first of its kind in Shanghai, was launched on March 11.

A number of key 5G technology projects carried out by 42 companies, including state-owned, private and foreign companies, were inaugurated at the ceremony. The projects are worth around 13 billion yuan ($1.85 billion).

Weng Zuliang, Party secretary of Pudong New Area, Hang Yingwei, deputy Party secretary of Pudong New Area, and other officials attended the ceremony.

Jinqiao 5G Industrial Park is an innovation powerhouse with 5G coverage. It provides a comprehensive 5G research environment.

The park aims to attract world-class platforms, leading companies and projects related to 5G, with the ultimate goal of becoming a global 5G innovation powerhouse.

Through years of effort, the Jinqiao Development Zone has brought together a number of leading companies specializing in the research of 5G technology, according to Yang Ye, director of the Jinqiao management bureau of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone.

"We have many companies such as China Tobacco Machinery Group Ltd and Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment Inc. China (AMEC) which have successfully improved their management and production efficiency through the use of 5G technologies," Yang said.

He noted that the Jinqiao 5G Industrial Park will bring more opportunities to the Jinqiao Development Zone.

The industrial park will focus on three core areas - - 5G+future vehicles, 5G+intelligent manufacturing and 5G+new communication.

Lu Yong, general manager of DIAS Automotive Electronic Systems Co Ltd, said that his company would continue to focus on the commercialization of 5G technology in the field of automatic driving after it sets up operations in Jinqiao.

Other companies and institutes operating in the industrial park include the Huawei Shanghai 5G Innovation Center, the 5G application center of the China Mobile Shanghai Industrial Research Institute, the open lab of 5G standard at the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, and more.

The Huawei Shanghai 5G Innovation Center is Huawei’s only 5G innovation center anywhere in the world. It will use Huawei's core 5G technologies to provide comprehensive support for companies in Jinqiao 5G Industrial Park.

The 5G application center of the China Mobile Shanghai Industrial Research Institute is a branch of China Mobile, the largest 5G operator in the world. The center will focus on research related to the application of 5G technologies in intelligent transportation, industrial energy and intelligent finance.

The open lab of 5G standards at the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology will be responsible for coming up with China's most authoritative 5G standards. The lab will help attract companies and promote international cooperation in 5G standards for internet of vehicles.
