The Belt and Road Technology Exchange Center for International Cooperation in the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone has greatly facilitated international trade, as well as helped Pudong achieve industrial agglomeration of inspection, testing, and certification services, according to a local news report on Aug 17.

Currently, Pudong New Area is home to 35 certification organizations, accounting for 26.52 percent of Shanghai's total number, generating an output value of 1,153 million yuan ($166.6 million) last year.

The technology exchange center helped local enterprises establish channels to access global certification and accreditation. It has also set up communication platforms for certification authorities and enterprises, which have greatly improved the efficiency and effectiveness of certification processes.

An array of themed events was launched by the center, which have promoted cooperation and exchange in areas related to technical regulations and product standards.

The center has also carried out projects to improve connectivity in areas, such as quality, technology, and basic services among countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which in turn has enhanced mutual regulatory recognition between China and BRI countries and regions.

In order to help local firms explore markets linked to the BRI, the center has provided technical guidance services on international trade.

Local authorities said that in the future, the center will promote inspection, testing, and certification services to the Yangtze River Delta region and to the whole country to help more certification authorities go global and enhance the competitiveness of domestic enterprises.
