Pudong New Area customs streamlines foreign trade procedures

The customs office in Pudong New Area in East China's Shanghai has been working to improve its services for local foreign trade companies, especially since China's new customs law came into effect.

On April 29, China passed a new customs law that abolished administrative examination and approval of companies when declaring goods. Instead, traders only need to file a report to receive their qualifications and they can go through all procedures online. It should take no more than half a day to finish the application process.

In order to have more companies enjoy the benefits that the policy provides, Pudong New Area customs has taken a series of actions. For example, the office has updated its guidebook for companies and offered consultation services via phone. In addition, customs officers will verify companies' information through the online platforms of relevant government departments so that companies don't have to go to different places to prepare the necessary documents.

On June 9, Shanghai Changxiong Laboratory Equipment Technology Co called Pudong New Area customs to apply for a qualification and they quickly finished the process with the help of a staff member, which deeply impressed the company's managing director, Chen Zixing, who later called again to express his gratitude.

To date, the customs office has helped more than 100 companies go through their application process.
