The sixth national vocational skill competition for people with disabilities will be held in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, in late October 2019.

The competition is sponsored by the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF) and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People's Republic of China.

About 950 persons with disabilities across the country will participate in the competition.

The winners will be awarded the title of National Technical Expert and be promoted in their professional qualifications.

As part of the 2019 China Skills Competition, this event aims to promote the achievements made in the vocational education and training for people with disabilities in China since the beginning of the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) as well as accelerate the building of a skilled work force among people with disabilities. It demonstrates their professional skills and their spirit of self-improvement, guides the whole society to respect and help them through understanding their working abilities, and leads the majority of them to study new technologies, adapt to market demands and promote their employment and entrepreneurship.

The competition is divided into 26 contests in the five categories of information and communication, art, crafts, and industry and services, said Zhang Xinlong, director of the Department of Education and Employment of the CDPF and secretary-general of the organizing committee.

There are about 35 million registered persons with disabilities in China, and about 18 million are in the employment age.

Initiated in 1989, and with a second session in 2003, the national vocational skill competition for persons with disabilities was approved by the State Council to be held every four years. A system of recognition and reward for outstanding participants was established at the same time.
