Professor Fang Xianzhi, a pioneer of orthopedic medicine in China, founded Tianjin Orthopedic Hospital in 1944 and introduced the method of combining motion and rest, emphasizing both tendons and bones, integrating internal and external therapies, and promoting cooperation between doctors and patients.

This treatment approach relies on manual fracture reduction, small splint fixation, and patient-led functional rehabilitation, replacing the traditional model of surgery, plaster casting, and prolonged bed rest. It results in faster fracture healing, better functional recovery, lower costs, and less pain.

This unique orthopedic technique, integrating traditional Chinese and Western medicine, has been passed down, refined, and innovated over more than 80 years. Recently, over 100 hospitals registered to participate in a training program on manual reduction techniques organized by Tianjin Orthopedic Hospital, highlighting the enduring vitality and influence of this medical tradition.
