Tianjin passes law to promote tourism; goes into effect in September

A series of regulations to promote tourism has been passed by the 36th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 17th Tianjin Municipal People's Congress on July 27.

The regulations closely focus on implementing a new development philosophy, boosting regional tourism, and promoting further its high-quality development.

In addition, they clarified the system and measures for planning and development, cultivation and support, management and supervision, which will be implemented this September.

The regulations are encouraged to utilize the advantageous elements, such as the urban nighttime landscapes, commercial facilities, theaters, bookstores and specialty catering, further enriching the consumption experience.  

Tianjin, a famous historical city with profound historical and cultural heritage, is rich in characteristic resources such as urban elegance, coastal leisure, rural pastoral and folk crafts.

In 2011, Tianjin promulgated and implemented regulations about tourism, which have played an important role in improving public services.

During the 12th Tianjin Municipal Congress of the Communist Party of China, the goal was put forward to shape Tianjin into a metropolis with high-quality development, high-level reform and opening up, high-efficiency governance, and high-quality life.

In order to promote the high-quality development of the industry, the regulations also propose to promote the open sharing of tourism-related data, support and guide tourism operators to integrate online and offline resources, and develop immersive interactive experiences, virtual displays, smart tours, and cloud tourism.

In addition, the regulations also sought to improve the coverage and convenience of payment methods in tourist places.

Over the last year, Tianjin implemented the archaeology along the canal such as the Yangliuqing Grand Canal Site Area and the restoration of cultural relics along the Beiyang Academy and the Guangdong Guild Hall. Meanwhile, a series of activities was organized, such as "Encounter Tianjin"   creative city, and the theme activities of "New Year's Taste of Tianjin".

Tianjin’s tourism industry has experienced a rapid recovery. A total of 179 million domestic tourists were reported throughout the year 2021, an increase of 26.7 percent and the revenue soared 47.9 percent to about 196.9 billion yuan($29.26 billion).
