The terminal of Section C in the Beijiang port area of Tianjin Port, the world's first smart and zero carbon terminal, has handled one million 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of containers since coming into operation last October.

“It took just 33 months to not only finish construction of the intelligent and green port, but to also achieve a container throughput of one million containers, a  new record of its kind,” said Yang Rong, a manager of Tianjin Port.

The terminal, which is operated by smart technology and powered by solar and wind, has made notable progress in integrating green and intelligent elements.

In the same period, the team has achieved several global 'firsts' and is responsible for 76 inventions and creations, setting a series of remarkable records.

The unmanned and smart terminal, which gives full play to high-tech solutions such as 5G, big data, blockchain, self-driving trucks, and AI-controlled robot workers, has seen improving performance.

Compared to traditional terminals, automatic terminals are approximately 40 percent more efficient and save 30 percent in energy.

As a pivotal shipping outlet for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region located on the coast of the Bohai Sea, the port has actively seized development opportunities brought by the Belt and Road Initiative, and has coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
