Binhai New Area,Tianjin, is located in the North China Plain, facing the sea to the east, across the sea from Japan and South Korea, with a coastline of 359 kilometers, an area of 2,283 square kilometers, and a wetland area of 674 square kilometers.
Binhai is one of China's most economically developed and highly internationalized national-level new areas, administering 5 national-level development zones and 21 townships, with a population of around 2.44 million.
The area has a warm temperate monsoon climate with distinct seasons, an average temperature of 14°C, and annual precipitation of 782.6 millimeters.
The three major wetlands, including Tianjin Beidagang wetland nature reserve, cover an area of 674 square kilometers. Five rivers, including the Haihe River, flow through the new area into the sea. Various migratory birds, such as the Oriental white stork and Larus relictus, inhabit and forage around the area.
It is rich in oil and natural gas resources, with the Dagang Oilfield on land and the Bohai Oilfield at sea, leading China in crude oil production.
It is easily accessible by land, sea, and air. As one of the world's top ten ports, Tianjin connects to over 500 ports in more than 180 countries and regions, with an annual container throughput exceeding 23 million TEUs. Tianjin International Cruise Home Port is the first and largest cruise home port in northern China.
Tianjin Binhai International Airport is a major airport in China, offering 161 domestic and international passenger routes. It is also the cargo hub for northern China's aviation.
Binhai has four high-speed railway stations with lines connecting to Europe. In addition,15 expressways run through the area, and the Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Railway has a journey time of one hour.
Binhai is the largest advanced manufacturing R&D base in northern China, with a regional GDP exceeding $100 billion, housing 380,000 market entities and more than 80 enterprises with revenues over $1.4 billion. Global Fortune 500 companies have invested over 2,000 projects in the area.
The area is known for its eight pillar industries: intelligent technology, aerospace, equipment manufacturing, green petrochemicals, automotive, biomedicine, new energy and new materials.
Binhai is home to over 50 listed companies and over 4,900 national high-tech enterprises, with more than 30 national key laboratories and research centers.
