Dongwutai Temple in Tianjin Located in Shuangtang Village, Shuangtang Town, Jinghai District, Dongwutai Temple covers an area of 8000 square meters. Originally named Jinghai Anci Hospital, it was approved for reconstruction by the Tianjin Religious Bureau on March 31, 2003, and renamed "Dongwutai Temple in Tianjin" on July 31, 2003, with the approval of the Tianjin Religious Bureau. Currently, the temple has three main halls, 20 side halls, and supporting monk's meditation rooms. The gatehouse of the temple is 19.9 meters high and 29.9 meters wide, with 99 Buddha statues and 99 dragons carved from white marble. A replica of the Jinshui Bridge at Tiananmen Square connects the gatehouse and the main hall, under which there is a release pond for religious followers to release animals. The Hall of the Heavenly Kings enshrines the main Buddha Maitreya, with the Buddha of the East, Medicine Buddha, and the Buddha of the West, Amitabha, on its back and Four Heavenly Kings on both sides. The Hall of the Great Hero is an all-wooden structure, the only wooden ancient-style building in northern China, enshrining Sakyamuni Buddha in the middle, Medicine Buddha in the east, and Amitabha Buddha in the west. On both sides are 18 Arhats, and the Buddha statues are all made of camphorwood covered in gold. Behind the main hall is the Hall of Manjusri, enshrining the Thousand-handed Manjusri Bodhisattva in a gold-plated bronze statue. On both sides are the Eastern and Western Three Saints halls. The scripture repository in the rear hall is the highest hall, with meditation rooms on both sides, and a white pagoda houses the treasure and the sarira Buddha ball.
