Zhuang Jiahan, mayor of Xiamen in East China's Fujian province, met with Anders Carsten Damsgaard, ambassador of Denmark to China, on May 23.

Zhuang briefed Damsgaard on the basic situations of Xiamen.

He said that the Chinese city boasts convenient transportation, complete infrastructure and a favorable business environment and welcomes investment from more Danish companies, especially those in the medical field.

Damsgaard said that Denmark has advanced technologies and abundant experience in the medical field, in which the country has maintained close cooperation with Xiamen.

The Cities Changing Diabetes, a global cooperative project launched by Denmark, was greatly supported by Xiamen, which was one of the first Chinese cities to join the project.

Renowend medical companies in Denmark have also invested in the city, such as Ambu International A/S, Novo Nordisk A/S, and Great Nordic Group.

Damsgaard expected further cooperation with Xiamen in the field of medical research and tourism.

The ambassador added that Xiamen and Denmark have close historical ties.

In 1869, the Great Northern Telegraph Company in Denmark opened an office on Gulangyu, an island of Xiamen.

Therefore, the Danish embassy in China decided to convene its annual management conference this year on Gulangyu to mark the 150th anniversary of that event.
