Xiamen was ranked among the top 30 global shipping centers, according to the 2019 Xinhua-Baltic International Shipping Center Development Index published on July 11.

The index reflects the development level of international shipping centers in terms of port conditions, shipping services and overall environment.

Xiamen has been expanding cooperation with countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road in recent years.

In the first half of 2019, Xiamen port recorded a total of 593 voyages along its 43 Maritime Silk Road shipping routes. The cargo throughput amounted to 440,200 standard containers, up 12.33 percent year-on-year.

The index has been published every year since 2014. The evaluation results in that time show that global shipping centers are developing steadily, with the epicenter of the industry gradually shifting eastward.
