Xiamen, in east China's Fujian province, has been attaching great importance to the improvement of waste disposal and recycling in recent years.

For instance, kitchen waste in Xiamen can be separated by the disposal plant into biogas residue, biogas slurry and biogas. The biogas residue can be made into organic compost products, while the biogas slurry can be used to make organic liquid fertilizer.

The biogas can generate electricity, which is then connected to the city's electricity grid. Statistics show that Xiamen's processed kitchen waste can generate 30,000 to 40,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per day.

The city also plans to build a new waste transfer station this year. The station is expected to reduce recontamination and cut transport costs, according to local media.

After completion, the daily household waste transfer capacity will reach 3,500 tons, and the daily kitchen waste transfer capacity will reach 500 tons.
