Xiamen in East China's Fujian province has made progress in cultivating physicians, the municipal health commission announced on July 20.

Statistics showed that by the end of March, the registered number of certified physicians, including assistant doctors, has reached 852 in Xiamen, up 11 percent year on year. The figure indicated that every 10,000 local residents have access to 2.07 physicians – a proportion calculated based on Xiamen's permanent resident population of 4.11 million in 2018.

The Xiamen health commission said the city has already achieved the national objective of ensuring two to three physicians for every 10,000 residents by 2020.

The city will continue making efforts in the healthcare industry, pledging that by the end of 2030, every 10,000 local residents will have access to five physicians.
