Xiamen Airlines celebrated its 35th anniversary and launched a sustainable development plan on July 25.

Established in 1984, Xiamen Airlines has developed from a local airline enterprise to a large international aviation industry group with an annual passenger flow of nearly 40 million.

The airline launched 12 major projects and 95 specific measures in four areas: safety, low-carbon operation, green service and benefits sharing.

The airline aims to save 100,000 tons of fuel and reduce carbon emissions by 300,000 tons per year. Also, it will introduce more environmentally friendly aircrafts, abandon high fuel consumption aircrafts, and strive to keep the average age of aircrafts below 5.7 years.

The airline also aims to establish a full-process self-service system by 2020. It will create green cabins featuring waste-sorting and combine traditional reading with digital reading.

Xiamen airlines' achievements in promoting sustainable development have been recognized internationally.

The airline signed an agreement with the United Nations on sustainable development goals on Feb 15, 2017, and earlier this year, in recognition of its outstanding performance, the UN renewed the contract with Xiamen Airlines until 2030.
