A diplomatic reception for the 2019 China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) & the Belt and Road Investment Congress was hosted by the Fujian Foreign Affairs Commission and the Xiamen municipal foreign affairs office in Xiamen, Fujian province, on Sept 8.

Fifty diplomatists from 25 countries including Mozambique, Indonesia, Columbia, and Sri Lanka attended the event. A number of government officials from the commerce bureau and international trade committee in Xiamen were also present at the event.

Chen Qiuxiong, deputy Party secretary of Xiamen, delivered a welcome speech to guests. He stressed that CIFIT is of great significance in deepening understanding and cooperation between Xiamen and participating countries.

Over the years, Xiamen has devoted efforts to becoming a modern and competitive international city. Relying on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the city has striven to promote its business environment and taken measures to accelerate the development of high-tech enterprises with high added value. 

Xiamen also enhanced cooperation and exchange in culture, economy and trade with countries involved in the BRI in order to push forward high-quality development, Chen said.

In addition, diplomatists spoke highly of the great achievements Xiamen has made since reform and opening-up began in 1978.
